MONGOLIA Yurt ("ger") on the plains 150 miles south of Ulaanbaatar. Mongolian nomads move their yurts as they follow their grazing stock. The yurts can be assembled in three hours. The wall is a wooden lattice work that expands for erection and contracts for travel; the roof is supported by poles that connect at the center ring. The outer skin consists of thick wool felt mats. In the center is a horse dung-fired cookstove.
